5 Things to Consider When Choosing Music for Your Video

If you want to make a great video, picking the right soundtrack is essential. As a video editing company, we at DreamItReel put a lot of time and thought into selecting a song that perfectly matches the style and purpose of each video we produce.

Here’s a list of things we consider when choosing music that can help you pick out the ideal soundtrack for your video.

  1. Music First, Video Second

Whether you’re editing the video yourself or giving it to someone else  it’s always a good idea to settle on the music first. You want the visuals to match the soundtrack, so if you change the music later on a good deal of your editing will be useless. In other words, changing the song can mean going back to square one.

  1. The Occasion

You’re not going to pick the same music for a wedding video that you would for a snowboarding video  are you? Considering the occasion, event, or subject is a good starting point when determining what song to use. Mango from TuneFruit wrote a detailed article on the DreamItReel blog that breaks down different occasions what music to use for each.

  1. The Story

Do you want a video that slowly builds to a big climax, or one that is cheerful and fun  Maybe you want to take the viewer on a roller coaster of emotions or deliver something epic and in your face  Whatever the story, the soundtrack will be the foundation. Let the music will plot out the journey and the visuals will simply fall into place.

  1. Your Audience

Loud and electronic might be a good choice for a young, hip crowd, but not so much if you’re going after middle-aged parents  Put some thought into what’s popular with your target audience and what kind of music will resonate with their generation, background, and culture.

  1. Lyrics or No Lyrics

Another important decision that can help narrow things down quickly. If your video has people speaking or voiceover in it, lyrics can be conflicting. Also, music with words can be distracting so if you want your viewer to focus on the content of your video and not the lyrics of the song, an instrumental track might be the way to go.

These tips are sure to help you pick music that matches the story and goals of your video.  Need some help with your video editing? DreamItReel makes it easy and affordable to get high quality video editing so give us a shout and say Tunefruit sent you!

Tunefruit Featured Stock Music License: OXEA (produced by @explainify)

As is usually the case with Explainify, when we get to license them a great stock music track, we know the explainer video they produce is going to be totally killer. And bam, just like mama told us, this video for OXEA is excellent.

As they tell it:

Our friends at OXEA, a German chemical manufacturing company, asked us to make an educational video explaining the chemical makeup and everyday uses of PVC and plasticizers to the general public. They were so much fun to work with, and had a ton of great ideas for the video! This fun, colorful, and incredibly informative video is an example of what happens when an animated video production company and a client truly collaborate to tell the best story possible.

Here’s what this fruit (Mango) knows. I want to write a song that uses the word plasticizer as a lyric. 🙂

3 Videos that show off how to use Dubstep Stock Music

DUBSTEP

“ALL HANDS ON DECK!” “PLUG YOUR EARS, CHILD!”

Honestly, what did you think when someone said, “Hey, my chill bromigo, this new dubstep artist is playing tonight.”

Probably – “Hmmm, dubstep? A bunch of dudes all dreaded out taking giant steps in some new dance craze?” Then you heard this “dubstep,” and oh, it’s actually a bunch of giant aliens stomping on computers because to untrained ears –

WHAT IS THAT NOISE?!

Next came the jokes – “Button mashers!” “Hope the Geek Squad is attending Ultra!” “Yeah…I can hit the spacebar too!”

But, let’s face it. Whether you are into dubstep or not, the genre is here to stay. More specifically, certain companies have tapped into this genre of stock music because more often than not, attracting young millennials means creating a technologically infused adrenaline hype with this type of video soundtrack. Need an example? Take GoPro, a company who consistently pushes the limit to capture incredible footage and pull from dubstep stock music to provide a killer soundtrack:

To be honest, looking at how GoPro successfully dropped their IPO and is currently valued at $3 billion, they might just know the power of using rockin’ video with awesome dubstep stock music. Just look at how much cooler this baby is than all of us due to GoPro’s ingenuity:

Now maybe you’re thinking – “It’s cool but our company doesn’t cater to extreme sports.” Don’t sweat. If you even dabble in the young, up-and-coming market, check out apparel gurus G Star Raw and their fresh video:

So, no. Dubstep is not for every marketing campaign. But do you want that hip sound all the youth have in their ears? Do you want your brand to push the envelope and appeal to the young, technologically savvy masses?

Then dive into our dubstep stock music and allow that background music to drop a wobble beat: Tunefruit Dubstep Stock Music

Creating Your Explainer Video: 3 Reasons Stock Music is Key

Tunefruit-The-Hotness2

We are reprinting (or whatever it’s now called when you repost somone’s writing from a different website, in this case, Planet Nutshell) for everyone’s enjoyment.

Our very own Peach wrote this doozy:

Context means everything. In TV, movies, and even with the printed word, if the viewer or reader isn’t given some help with how to interpret what’s happening, she or he won’t be able to take away insight from what they’ve just experienced. And as a content creator, if you don’t frame your work with the appropriate contextual details, you won’t be able to get your point across. One of the simplest and most effective ways to create context is by adding a musical score.

The right song changes everything

Add a bombastic, triumphant orchestral piece to your video for running shoes to show how they can lead the runner to victory. Add a soft and sweet ukulele track in a video for diapers or baby food to show the warm and nurturing quality of the product. Make sure your song choices are thoughtful; if you don’t support your video with music that underscores your video’s message, the effect of your company’s message may be weakened.

Great video improves engagement

And great video often contains great music. No matter what your company does, a well-crafted explainer video that features appropriate music can be a huge boon to your business. According to MarketingSherpa, 100% more time is spent on pages that include video. Imagine the kind of increase in sales you’d see if your visitors spent twice as long on your site.

Explainer videos increase conversions

According to analytics provider, Comscore, retail site visitors who viewed video are 64% more likely to make a purchase than those who did not view video. That’s huge! Imagine that by posting a polished and professional video that explains the benefits of your business that you could increase sales by 64%. Simply amazing!

So, where do we go from here? In order to maximize the potential of your next explainer video, which by now I hope you see as beyond essential, you’ve got to make sure you’re empowering your video to be as impactful as possible. If you want to drive home your message, if you want to make sure you’re squeezing every last drop of persuasiveness from the pitch you’ll make to your potential customers, make sure you pick the sweetest, ripest tracks to score your spot. Any old ecommerce site can attract attention with an embedded Youtube clip and the promise of 90 seconds of distraction, but why not go the extra mile and put together an explainer that really rocks. With an explainer that clearly and simply explains who you are and what you do, supported by fresh music, your customers will soon be singing your praises.

Tuneruit Tech and Music Mashup – Should Twitter Buy SoundCloud?

Tunefruit-Tech-Talk

I have been using SoundCloud for many years now.  As a music producer, it is an excellent tool to upload and share your music with the world.  They have great analytics tools too. They help you track who is listening to your music and where they are.   It came as a surprise when I recently heard about a possible buyout from Twitter.  Both sites have a user base of around 250 million and recent reports have said that more users share SoundCloud links than any other site.  Facts such as this have had tech analysts say this is a smart move.

Could Twitter really benefit from a site like SoundCloud?  I am not alone in my skepticism.  Recent reports have stated that Twitter is not growing fast enough and this sentiment is being reflected in the stock price.  As a result, acquisitions that would appear “outside of the box” are being considered.  Twitter has been wanting to get closer to the music industry for some time now.  In addition, acquiring a company with a large user base will definitely add value and address growth concerns.

I am not quite convinced.  For some reason having them as separate entities seems like a more natural fit.  Latest reports have said that the deal is currently off, however, anything can happen so keep an eye on this space.
