5 Things to Consider When Choosing Music for Your Video

Tunefruit-The-Hotness2

notebook-338486_1920

If you want to make a great video, picking the right soundtrack is essential. As a video editing company, we at DreamItReel put a lot of time and thought into selecting a song that perfectly matches the style and purpose of each video we produce.

Here’s a list of things we consider when choosing music that can help you pick out the ideal soundtrack for your video.

  1. Music First, Video Second

Whether you’re editing the video yourself or giving it to someone else  it’s always a good idea to settle on the music first. You want the visuals to match the soundtrack, so if you change the music later on a good deal of your editing will be useless. In other words, changing the song can mean going back to square one.

  1. The Occasion

You’re not going to pick the same music for a wedding video that you would for a snowboarding video  are you? Considering the occasion, event, or subject is a good starting point when determining what song to use. Mango from TuneFruit wrote a detailed article on the DreamItReel blog that breaks down different occasions what music to use for each.

  1. The Story

Do you want a video that slowly builds to a big climax, or one that is cheerful and fun  Maybe you want to take the viewer on a roller coaster of emotions or deliver something epic and in your face  Whatever the story, the soundtrack will be the foundation. Let the music will plot out the journey and the visuals will simply fall into place.

  1. Your Audience

Loud and electronic might be a good choice for a young, hip crowd, but not so much if you’re going after middle-aged parents  Put some thought into what’s popular with your target audience and what kind of music will resonate with their generation, background, and culture.

  1. Lyrics or No Lyrics

Another important decision that can help narrow things down quickly. If your video has people speaking or voiceover in it, lyrics can be conflicting. Also, music with words can be distracting so if you want your viewer to focus on the content of your video and not the lyrics of the song, an instrumental track might be the way to go.

These tips are sure to help you pick music that matches the story and goals of your video.  Need some help with your video editing? DreamItReel makes it easy and affordable to get high quality video editing so give us a shout and say Tunefruit sent you!

Tunefruit-Featured-License BIG

Our latest featured stock music license is for the fantastically fine folks (the three F’s!) over at HospitalitySeeker.com.  They help people buy, sell, and lease, hotel, tourism, and leisure properties in Italy (yes, it’s shaped like a boot). This fruit feels like he could have eliminated a few commas in that last sentence, but our 6th grade english teacher would be muy infeliz.

Ammirite?

You can also figure out the market value of your property on HospitalitySeeker.com, too. Which is pretty cool, especially if you want to become a real estate mogul like Donald Trump, or at least Thurston Howell III (Look it up, he apparently owned all of downtown Denver!).

“Loving it” Weekly May 13th Playlist with Guava, Tunefruit’s Stock Music Specialist

Tunefruit-The-Hotness

Here’s this week’s taste of some fresh new music coming into our stock music library that I (Guava) just absolutely love!

1. “Digital Funk” – Max Power

What’s old is new again.  Classic old school disco funk with the modern twist.  French dudes with robot heads would love it.

2. “Don’t Try to Catch Me” – Libra Music

Don’t even know what to make of this one – except we hear so much music around here that something this truly different and unique is sure to catch our ears.  It’s odd kooky wacky downright strangeness might be just the thing when you need the unexpected and indescribable.

3. “Slap That Bass” – Porrazzo

As advertised, there is lots of slap bass in this track.  It’s classic flea – old school “Uplift Mofo Party Plan” era Red Hot Chili Peppers.  It’s sure to uplift your party.

4. “Funny Acoustic Funk” – Ilyatruhanov

Immaculate guitar recording and performance.  Bright bouncy happy summer fun.  Good times!

5. “Dragonheart Epic Heroic” – Peter M.

If you’re gonna name your track “Dragonheart” it better deliver soaring epic grandeur – big drums, triumphant horns, and just when you think it can’t get any bigger it better take it up a few notches.  This track does all of that and more.  You bring the dragons and we’ll supply the soundtrack.

6. “Beautiful Soul” – stevecollom

OK, since we obviously couldn’t get any bigger than the previous track we had to step in a different direction.  This beautiful acoustic track evokes feelings of being at peace – one with nature.  Shimmering acoustic guitars and light piano undertones make a pastoral setting that makes us want to unplug and take in the scenery.  Good idea actually – I’m outta here!

  1. “Nighttime in Toronto” – aaronsaloman

Cruising the streets at night in downtown Toronto. Snowdrifts on either side as you head out past midnight. Perfect ambient, indie stock music track to just let your worries float away.

  1. “Easy Lover (Vocals)” – wavebuffet

The immediate thought when the retro track comes on is “hmm sounds like a swinging good time at a 1930’s speakeasy.” But then there’s the quirky twist of the DJ scratch to truly make this a unique track.

  1. “Airfall” – deanwolfecs

Nothing like a sweet, sentimental children’s stock music track to bring a smile to your day. The lovely blend of strings, ukulele and xylophone makes what could be an ordinary track, extraordinary for your commercial needs.

  1. “White Knight (Instrumental)” – Charlotte Wrinch

Woah, here in an impressive track played by studio musicians. Just what type of stock music track you may ask? Well, this here is a laid back, latin jazzy groove to take you to warmer weather during this bitterly cold winter.

  1. “Melangerie” – Joachim

Remember Macklemore’s “Same Love” that became a chart topping phenomenon? Well “Melangerie” makes for nice competition with a similar young and hopeful attitude in this hip hop track.

  1. “Upbeat Synth Party” – TheNationalPool

I’d like to imagine that a synth party involves just an insane amount of people on synths and zero music knowledge. But unlike that terrible idea, TheNationalPool has the perfect blend of synths to make for an awesome, upbeat electronica stock music track.

  1. “Driving Into Danger” – Owen

Oftentimes I try to just stay out of other people’s business, but Owen do NOT knowingly drive into danger! Sheesh. Can’t you hear the ambient and ominous cinematic stock music??

  1. “Translucent Light” – Draum

Sometimes a track comes on for just a few seconds and you know you’re feeling it. Perhaps it’s the opening piano line in this case. Definitely love this electronic, pop track to get me grooving.

  1. “Horizon” – perboysen

Slow to build, “Horizon” is a dreamlike state of reflection as you drive in the desert off into the horizon. Trust me on that. This ambient, rock stock music track builds to lovely spaced out crescendo.

  1. “Meant To Be (Big Band Backtrack)” – TroyKline

We don’t get a massive influx of big band stock music tracks, but Mr. Kline has provided one of the best we’ve heard in a while. Great work on taking me back to my youthful berry days sipping on cocktails in the lounge.

  1. “Cool Raindrops” – Jonathan Wright

I need this elegant stock track playing in the background whenver I put on my perfectly tailored guava fruit suit. Love the sense of luxury, pride, wonder and a touch of nostalgia.

  1. “Curiosites” – Fabrice Ravelle-Chapuis

Woah. This is some impressive music right here. Love the combo of strings, clarinet and piano. You are correct Fabrice, is this dark and dangerous or something exotic and enticing?

  1. “Lost Faith” – TOYINVENTION

Ugh, yeah y’all feel that? Urban HIP HOP stock music track. Batten down the hatches ‘erbody. Guava is gonna roll deep with this dark, sleek track in the background.

  1. “Rising from the Ashes” – Scoreweaver

Soooo I’m going to need this hip cinematic stock track playing every time I wake up in the morning. Great embodiment of rising from the bottom to the top with a contemporary feel.

  1. “Wings Of Destiny” – Kubed

I’m so bad at basketball. Literally can’t even make a layup 50% of the time. BUT if I put on a brand new pair of Nike’s and play this dubstep/electronic track, I’d be like Kobe 2.0.

  1. “Dragonfly” – ludwigamadeus

Here is a great, breezy acoustic track. But not just any ol’ acoustic sounding track, there is the perfect blend of electronic sound with the peaceful strumming. Listen and float away.

  1. “Club Hair” – SongMonster

Just last weekend I was bumping along in the club with my super slick guava stem and when I woke up the next morning – Woah. Who knows what would happen if the clubs play this track.

  1. “Marketing Done Right” – macaent

Please give me more tips on this thing you call marketing! Well, if I’m only left with this track then I can at least say, playing this stock track in your next promotional video might be key.

  1. “Twirling in the Long Grass” – Matthew Prins

Do you need peaceful, beautiful piano in your life? But wait, do you need LAYERS of cinematic, dreamlike pianos? Great, because this nostalgic stock track is your ticket.

  1. “Lake Michigan” – Matthew Prins

Here’s another track where I feel like I am soaring over Lake Michigan in a dream. The solo piano track is a lovely introspective piece that can really make you think. Thanks Mr. Prins!

  1. “Tiki Trake” – Porrazzo

Woah. Here is a very unique stock music track! We don’t have too much a capella, so this track is a super neat, quirky vocal track featuring a wacky blend of male harmonies!

  1. “Deep In The Jungle” – Jagenkreunch

My native heritage is calling! (after all, a guava fruit from the tropical regions) Hark, I will come deep into the jungle and battle for the rights of fertile soil! All hail King Guava of the Jungle!

  1. “My Rainbows are Melting” – Plaything

Briefly, I pictured one of those canvases with all the crayons up top and someone has melted them. Let’s go deeper. Here’s a chilled, DJ Shadowisque, reminder of old school trip hop.

  1. “Dark Shadows” – TOYINVENTION

Strap yourself into you movie theater seat cause you’re about to go on a super wild ride into the demon caves! This stock music track is an great hybrid, orchestral horror ride into hell!

  1. “Euphoria Dubstep” – Max Power

Uh oh, here comes some dubstep stock music! (what’re those darn kids listening to now??) This track does a great job bridging the gap between business corporate and the youth.

  1. “Mindfields” – Erdin

With those strings and the deep percussion, this track is subty more epic than one would think! Plus, there’s a great modern element, the synthesizer layered over the top at times!

  1. “Sweet Seventies Lovin” – Mellowstu

Do you guys smell love in the air? That sweet, musty smell of love? Well that’s my 70’s leisure suit that I just pulled out of the closet. Gross. But, I’m only wearing it to celebrate this track!

10.  “Empowered Indie” – vpedulla

But if we give power to those indie kids they will all make us wear skinny jeans!!!…Well, maybe that’s not really what this means but love this indie track’s power and confidence.

Tunefruit Featured Stock Music License: Trout Unlimited (prod. by Sage Lion Media)

Tunefruit-Featured-License BIG

sage-lion-logo-final

Our newest Featured Stock Music License comes from the fine folks over at Sage Lion Media. They produced this awesome video for Trout Unlimited.

Trout Unlimited was looking for a video that highlighted the unique characteristics of this amazing place in Colorado called Browns Canyon. There has been legislation about designating it a National Monument for decades but nothing has ever come of it. Sage Lion Media was looking to increase public awareness that this place is being threatened and the time to act is now.

Browns Canyon, located along the upper Arkansas River in Colorado, is known for premier trout fishing, outstanding big game habitat, world-famous whitewater, rugged and remote wildlands, and a proud cattle ranching tradition. This diversity supports thousands of jobs, from river outfitters and guides to ranchers in the nearby communities of Salida and Buena Vista. Protecting this 22,000 acre gem along the Arkansas River as a National Monument is a community-driven effort to preserve this unique natural and economic resource for generations to come.

If you’re looking for more info on Trout Unlimited, head over here: http://www.sportsmenforbrowns.com/

  1. “Inspiring” – Twisterium

When I wake up and don’t even need my cup of coffee to smile, you know I’m in a killer mood. So with that said, what in the world is better than waking up to my cup o’ joe? “Inspring.”

  1. “Epic Jungle Trailer” – GuidoNegraszus

I ran through a jungle one time (true story). I did not have this stock track playing Mr. Negraszus. WHERE WAS IT WHEN I NEEDED IT TO FEEL SO COOL?! This is epic.

  1. “Expressive Piano Build” – Seastock

I’m often a sucker for these slow, arpeggiated piano builds. Just get yourself into the zone and imagine you’re running slow motion, high fiving your coworkers with this stock track playing.

  1. “Creeping Through the Clouds” – Playthings

I love weird, out of the blue music. Playthings, you’ve done a great job with this really nice, retro blend of Super Nintendo waltz. So keep on keeping on with your stock tracks.

I really enjoy this track. With Middle Eastern flair, there are subtle hints of emotions rising underneath but never coming to realization, and even a sense of mystery and wonder escape.

  1. “Faint of Heart” – dton3z

dton3z has a great point. This hybrid EDM/hip hop stock music track is NOT for the faint of heart. Buckle up, hold on, brace yourself, do whatcha gotta do cause BEAT’S GONNA DROP.
