Thankfully, AJ was able to decipher our ramblings and piece together one heckuva an interview.

Huckleberry hails from Connecticut. After a short stint of walking the streets of NYC at 4 a.m. (with a tuba), he finally had enough dough for a bus ticket to Atlanta where he graciously accepted the job of “overworked, underpaid intern.” After all, what’s a berry gonna do with money?

Hey guys, before we get started I have something I need to get off my chest… My name is Huckleberry, and I’m a Crossfitter. Yes, I am a member of that weird cultish gym that has strange acronyms for things that don’t need acronyms. We alienate people by telling literally everyone we see that we are more hardcore than they are. You may have seen someone wearing a T-shirt saying “My warm-up is your workout.” Or my personal favorite:

This morning (read: 5 AM) I was officiating a team’s workout in preparation for the Crossfit Games Open. The whole point of it was to do as many reps as possible in a certain amount of time. This guy I’m watching starts out wicked (I’m from the northeast, deal with it) fast and then falls quickly to a snails pace and it’s killing me. He is much stronger and faster than I am, but I could keep up with him. I’m screaming at him to fix his form and to think.

Suddenly…his pace doubles.

He was working twice as hard, using twice the energy he needed to. You can’t solve your problems by brute force! You still have to do things right!

YOU. HAVE. TO. BE. EFFICIENT.

Our Very Own (I capitalized for MASSIVE effect) weekly rag, Creative Loafing featured Tunefruit as one of 10 Startups to Watch in the Atlanta scene. You could replace Atlanta with Universe and you’d be more right. Sort of. Ok…maybe we’re becoming big in the Southeast. Jeesh, I don’t know, it’s so hard to figure these things out. Anyway…this article is cool, and details many other awesome new companies, too. But we are the only music licensing behemoth on there!

Intro Video. Brand Video. Explainer Video. You may have heard one or more of these terms recently, but what exactly is it? The most popular term right now is explainer video and the gist is these videos ‘explain’ what you do quickly and easily so anyone can understand it. It’s a short and concise version of exactly what your company does.

So why are they so popular right now? The biggest reason is people like to be entertained. Let’s face it, if you have the choice between reading and scrolling down a web page of text or sitting back and watching a one minute video. You’re watching the video. That’s because people prefer to learn through audio/visual methods. If the viewer watches a video with both audio and visuals they are far more likely to remember that than just a text description. In fact, in a recent survey by Forbes of C-level business executives indicated that 59% said they would rather watch an online video than read text covering the same information on a website.

Explainer videos are also great at increasing conversions when scripted correctly. If you can help the consumer understand what you do faster through a quick video, you can get them to take the next step that much quicker. It’s that snackable video content the people are looking for to help them make more informed decisions.

One of the most famous explainer videos you are probably familiar with is the one created for Dropbox  which is pretty much the only visual you see on their home page. Haven’t seen it? Check it out here, I’ll wait for you:

This simple video on a targeted landing page helped launch Dropbox from a very cool little file sharing startup to the company they are today with over 100 million. Not bad, right?

“Yeah but that’s Dropbox, they’re huge. It wouldn’t work for me.” Is what you’re saying now, right? I say poppycock. Here’s an example of one I’ve worked on is the explainer video we created for a startup called MyVR:

By placing the video on their homepage, over 87% of site visitors watched the video and they had a 34% increase in trial signups for their service after the video was implemented on their home page. So it can work for anyone from the scrappy startup on up to companies like Dropbox that are valued at over 4 billion dollars.

You only get one chance to make a first impression; and your explainer video is that first impression. Explainer videos are a great way to connect with potential customers and clearly convey what it is you do. So even if someone watches it at 3am while groggily half asleep, what you do and the problem your product or service solves is presented perfectly as if it was properly caffeinated during normal business hours.

What’s good Tunefruitters (there is still an in-office argument about this word)?

Huck here, stealing the reigns from Mango for one very hot second. How did I manage such a coup? You guys should know by now that I’m the intern in ‘business school’. I rocked out my last final exam of the semester last night (solid C-). So without telling anyone, I decided to take a vacation AND cause some trouble!

Late last night I grabbed the launch codes and shipped off on a booze cruise to Jamaica. To hell with all of Mango’s ‘plans’ and ‘organization’, I just wanna rep tunes that I’m feeling right now.

So right now I’m floating away to a vacation in the sun listening to this jam. (get it?)

And with such a sea-worthy vessel, I’ll be in Jamaica in no time, partying on the beach, listening to some steel drums, and swimming in the warm seawater.
